Environmental “good deeds” have gained visibility through the voluntary efforts of the “Maka Twins,” identical twins living in Croydon who deep-clean streets and parks in their spare time. The twins have built a significant reputation for their work in Grange Park in Old Coulsdon and other sites across Selsdon and Coulsdon. Their actions run parallel to the council’s “Cleaner Croydon” campaign, which targets graffiti and fly-tipping to improve the borough’s district centers. By voluntarily restoring public spaces, the twins provide a tangible example of residents taking ownership of their local environment. Their work has inspired others to participate in “blitz cleans” and use local reporting apps to maintain the beauty of Croydon’s 127 parks and open spaces.
